Watch the Painting Process

This Key Essentials speed painting video shows the entire process from the first outlines to the final adjustments. The still life focuses on everyday objects — sunglasses, car keys, and a keychain — captured quickly in expressive acrylic layers.

The painting began with a Vermillion background. From there I sketched the objects using Primary Cyan to establish outlines and shadow shapes. Because the paint on my palette was already starting to dry, the brushstrokes became rougher and more textured, which added character to the piece.

The idea for the subject came from the moment itself. It was a sunny day, and the objects lying nearby — sunglasses, keys, and a worn keychain — felt like the perfect quick still life. Instead of aiming for precision, the goal was to capture the mood and spontaneity of the moment.

The following day I refreshed the background slightly to increase contrast and help the objects stand out more clearly. The objects themselves were left untouched, preserving the loose energy of the original painting session.

Small, unplanned paintings like this often turn out to be the most enjoyable. No pressure — just paint, color, and movement.
